Shadowbans

Server application shadowbanning system

An application shadowban is a quiet restriction that prevents a user from submitting applications. When a shadowbanned user tries to make an application, Wypher Bot displays the following message:

“This feature is temporarily disabled for you. Please open a ticket if you have further questions.”

Executing the shadowban command stops the user from being able to create new applications until an issue is resolved, person is no longer limited due to age or other reasons

Use shadowbanning for obvious spammers, trolls, or ban evaders who have already submitted an application, keeping them from realizing they are blocked

When applying a “General rule violation”, the user should also be shadowbanned

Users are automatically shadowbanned upon verification or limiting. This prevents them from leaving and rejoining the server to slip past the verification system and evade active chat area bans

If a shadowbanned user opens a ticket to ask about the shadowban message (see overview), don’t mention shadowbans. Staff should keep responses neutral and avoid mentioning them directly (they are called shadowban for a reason)

  • Avoid using the word “shadowban” or similar wording
  • Instead state the reason they are not able to make a new application or try to help resolve the issue which got them shadowbanned
